Our Mission
GLENDA fosters appreciation of gays, lesbians and all people by working together with diverse communities to make western Pennsylvania a better place to live.
GLENDA is a charitable 501(C)(3) all-volunteer organization in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania that joins forces with other corporate, civic, church, fraternal, and school groups to perform over 2000 volunteer hours per year to improve our region.
Working together, we help to beautify our region, assist our less fortunate neighbors, help fight disease, and help fight prejudice. GLENDA provides an opportunity for diverse people to work together, dispel negative stereotypes, appreciate our differences, and recognize the positive impact we can have when we pull together on behalf of our entire community.
Our programs include:
- GLENDA Volunteerism: 8-20 of our over 500 volunteers sign on to a weekend or evening project where we can expect to be working with other volunteers for a worthy cause.
- DiverseCity Pittsburgh (previously call Partnering Projects): GLENDA works with a charitable agency to arrange a 2-4 hour project, with lunch, for 35-200 volunteers. GLENDA coordinates 5-20 (or more) volunteers from diverse corporate, civic, fraternal, school, and church organizations. At the completion of the project, lunch is provided to all volunteers, giving all the participants a chance to interact informally and celebrate our joint accomplishment.
